Job Description:
The position The position involves research, teaching and corresponding administrative activities. The candidate will have teaching obligations in degree programs at the Faculty of Natural- and Health Sciences. The teaching obligations involve lecturing and supervision as well as planning and coordination of course modules. The teaching duties are currently within BSc degree programs in biology, but the employee may also expect to become involved in new programs to be developed at the University. It will be considered advantageous if applicants have experience with university level teaching and research supervision. The research will to a large extent be in the field of expertise of the employee. It is desirable that the applicants have solid research and laboratory experience in fields related to molecular biology. The employee will have access to e.g. PCR, real-time PCR, dideoxy sequencing, next generation sequencing and mass spectrometry. It will, therefore, be considered advantageous if applicants have experience with such techniques. It is desirable that the applicants can indicate opportunities for collaboration with other science communities in the Faroe Islands and abroad. Qualifications Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant area, and have relevant work experience. The applicants should have experience in one or, preferably, more of the following fields: molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, toxicology, microbiology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or similar fields. The level of appointment will be as associate professor or assistant professor, depending on the qualifications of the applicant. The associate professor position is a permanent teaching and research position. Associate professors should have good scientific and academic qualifications in their field. Associate professors should have good pedagogical skills and administrative experience in higher education and research. The assistant professor position is a fixed-term teaching and research position with prospects of securing a permanent associate professor position, provided that the requirements for this permanent position are fulfilled. The term of the assistant professorship is ordinarily 4 years, but may under some conditions be up to 6 years. Assistant professors must acquire the skills, competences and qualifications required to advance to the permanent position well ahead of the end of their temporary appointment.
