Job Purpose

To pursue high quality teaching in Mechanical Engineering at all undergraduate and postgraduate levels, pursue scholarship, and carry out allocated administrative tasks.

The salary will be on the Research and Teaching Grade, level 7/8/9, £33,242 - £37,394 / £40,847 - £47,328 / £48,742 - £54,841 per annum.

The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.

All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University's relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court's policies. Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.

University Teachers, on appointment, shall normally be required to serve a period of probation; exceptionally Senior University Teachers may be required to serve a period of probation, particularly when they have had no previous university experience. The period of probation, which shall normally be three years, may be reduced or waived by the Director of Human Resources on the recommendation of the Appointing Committee having regard for the previous experience of the person appointed.

In exceptional circumstances, when an appointee has no postgraduate degree or has not worked in a lower level academic position the Appointing Committee can recommend that 4 years of probation be completed.

A requirement for completion of probation is that you undertake and successfully complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PgCAP) offered by the University of Glasgow Learning & Teaching Centre (LTC). The programme is rated at 60M SCOTCAT credits and successful completion leads to the award of the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. You may be granted an exemption from completing the PgCAP if you already have either Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) or an equivalent qualification.
