Job Description:
The Data Scientist on the Implementation Team implements content into the Watson Health EPM application, in the form of quality or utilization measure logic, registries and attribution logic. Performs initial quality assessment of the content, investigation into data or logic issues, and root cause analysis of unexpected content results. Routine tasks are varied and cross-functional, including loading software code into a production environment, operating in a software version control system, data analysis using SQL, referencing and/or developing technical specifications for client-specific content or customizations to standard content, creation of analytic reports and routinely working with and talking about healthcare data. Knowledge of standard healthcare ontologies desired. Additionally, the Implementation team provides technical support to the client-focused teams, occasionally interacting with the client to provide solutions to data-related problems. Interactions with other technical teams in Platform Services occurs routinely, as well as Customer Application Support and Engineering.

Essential Duties:

  • Implement the Content per the customer requirements.
  • Customize the quality measures, registries or provider attribution logic written in Explorys Measure Definition Language (MDL), an XML programming language, to the specifications of the customer.
  • Validate the quality of all measures and QA the Measure application.
  • Assess/evaluate and triage the issues that are reported during Customer Implementation or User Acceptance Testing.
  • Collaborate with Client Services Team in understanding the severity of the issue reported, and working closely with Delivery Lead, perform a root cause analysis of the issue.
  • Create Standard and Custom Quality Assurance Reports.
  • Collaborate and coordinate activities with other team members within Platform Services (Integrations, METLs, Standardization).
  • Evaluate quality measures from organizations like the National Quality Forum (NQF), Inpatient Quality Initiative (IQI), and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Support Client Services and Platform Services in understanding and processing the data in our system.
  • Communicate in a detailed and professional manner with internal teams and occasionally the client.
Minimum Qualification:
  • 1-3 years of experience in a clinical and/or technical environment or a degree in Health Information Management (HIM), Bioinformatics or another related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or RHIA
  • 1-3 years experience in database management, data analysis, data science
  • 1-3 years SQL experience or other query language
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative cross-functional environment
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working within Healthcare IT
  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Analytics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Biomedical Engineering,
  • Healthcare Administration or related field
  • Experience in healthcare operations
  • Exposure to healthcare claims data
  • Knowledge of Clinical Quality measures (ACO, HEDIS, PQRS, CPC+, etc)
  • Knowledge of clinical classification systems and clinical vocabularies and nomenclature, such as ICD-9-CM/ICD 10, CPT, LOINC, SNOMED-CT, and RxNorm
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in coding language such as XML, HTML
  • Proficiency with SQL on large datasets
  • Experience using SAS, SPSS, or other analytic tools a plus
  • Python or other scripting language, Java, HADOOP, HBASE exposure a plus
Required Technical and Professional Expertise:
  • 1-3 years of experience in a clinical and/or technical environment or a degree in Health
  • Information Management (HIM), Bioinformatics or another related field
  • 1-3 years experience in database management, data analysis, data science
  • 1-3 years SQL experience or other query language
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience :
  • Experience working within Healthcare IT
