Ensembl (http://www.ensembl.org/) is one of the most successful large-scale bioinformatics projects and one of the leading projects for genome annotation. Utilising Ensembl’s software stack for genome analysis and annotation the Ensembl web team develops interfaces for the dissemination and analysis of genome data. The same software stack is reused in Ensembl’s sister project Ensembl Genomes (http://www.ensemblgenomes.org). The successful candidate will work as part of a team of web developers with responsibilities including:

Our salary scales are very competitive. Applicants should hold an MSc in a biological or computer science or have equivalent experience.

Previous experience of working in a large software development team would be advantageous. Working knowledge of biology/biochemistry/genomics is desirable but not essential.

A flexible mindset, a capacity for independent work, and a commitment to the delivery of a high-quality public service, are all required.

Applicants should be experienced in web development (JavaScript, CSS and HTML) ideally using Perl. Advanced knowledge of other modern languages, e.g. Python and PHP, would be considered.
