Job Description:
As a member of the Neuroscience group, the Systems Software Engineer will be embedded in various projects within the group. The group is currently working on projects related to neural connectome and calcium imaging. The Software Engineer will create and maintain numerous applications and tools as needed to help support diverse, quantitative scientific research projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in computer science or related technical discipline.

Ideal Experience:

  • Several years of professional experience with back-end software development
  • Proficiency in Python is required.
  • Background in image processing
  • Experience running TensorFlow or Caffe
  • Experience with running batch jobs on computing clusters
  • Experience running software in a cloud environment
  • Experience with Matlab
  • Familiarity with Linux
Related Skills & Other Requirements:
  • Experience with C++, QT and WebGL
  • Knowledge of software engineering practices for working in groups, including software development life cycles, coding standards, code review and version control systems (e.g., Mercurial, Git).
  • Expertise in algorithms and data structures
  • Technical and scientific curiosity
  • Willingness to use the right tools to get the job done
  • Professional communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to customer service

The Simons Foundation is beginning a new computational science organization called the Flatiron Institute. The Flatiron Institute includes three centers — the Center for Computational Astrophysics, the Center for Computational Biology and the Center for Quantum Physics. The Neuroscience group sits within the Center for Computational Biology. The Systems Software Engineer will report to the group leader for Neuroscience and will work in collaboration with members of the Scientific Computing Core.
