Job Description:
Designs experiments and conducts research with minimal supervision. Interacts with a team of physicians, scientists, research technicians, and students. Develops research ideas and plans, conducts experiments, analyzes and prepares data for publication and presentation. Writes experimental protocols, abstracts, and manuscripts for publication, and assists in preparation of grant applications. Essential Functions: • Conducts research using molecular and cellular biology techniques. Experience in cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, SDS-PAGE and agarose gel electrophoresis, bacterial transformation, and cell transfection required. • Analyzes cell cultures and/or suitable animal tissues, including human tissues. • Assists in the development of new methodology in sample preparation, and analysis of samples for molecular and biochemical analyses. • Assists in data collection, storage, and analysis, including use of bioinformatics software and analysis tools. • Produces abstracts and manuscripts for presentation at scientific meetings and publication. • Assists with preparation of grant applications. • Instructs and trains other laboratory members in the use of the laboratory instruments, equipment, and techniques. • Coordinates with other researchers. Physical Requirements: Involves long periods of sitting or standing and some walking. Occasional lifting is necessary. Must be able to work with small mammals. Must be able to work with human and animal blood products. Education, Experience and Certifications: MD, PhD or both in Proteomics, Biochemistry, Biology, or Bioinformatics required. 3 years of relevant pre-doctoral research experience required. Experience in molecular biology, cell culture, and biochemical techniques such as site-directed mutagenesis, cell transfections/transductions, Western blot analyses, real-time PCR, ELISA, and XTT assays, preferred. Prior experience in hematology also preferred.
