Job Description:
The Santoro Lab at the Marine Science Institute (MSI) of the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to work on the diversity of transporter proteins in uncultivated marine microbes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatics including the analysis of metagenomic data and phylogenomics. The postdoc will work collaboratively as part of an international team involving researchers from the University of Exeter in the UK. The position may involve international travel; a valid passport or ability to obtain one is required.

Basic qualifications:

Ph.D. in bioinformatics, microbiology, evolution, marine science, or a related field.

Additional qualifications:

Extensive experience with one or more programming languages and analysis of large nucleic acid sequence datasets. Demonstrated record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience with protein structure prediction. Some prior experience with marine systems is also desirable. Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
