Job Description:
The College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks to fill a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professorship of Bioinformatics-Enabled Systems Biology within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as part of a research cluster of excellence in sustainable dryland agriculture.

Preference will be given to applicants with proficiency in emerging research areas including computational biology for genomics, bioinformatics-enabled transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, regulatory network or metabolic flux analysis and modeling, Biosystems design and synthesis, in-silico protein modeling and molecular dynamics, and related research areas that inform agricultural production systems. Candidates must demonstrate the capability to develop a high-impact, nationally recognized extramurally funded research program and excellence in teaching. As a member of the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station and the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources, the candidate will have the opportunity to interact with existing faculty to establish, utilize, and integrate cutting-edge approaches for plant, insect, and animal-related research, instruction, engagement, and outreach. Candidates must be committed to teaching existing and developing new undergraduate and graduate courses in topic areas such as bioinformatics, computational biology, systems or synthetic biology, biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, functional genomics, protein structure function, and metabolic regulation and engineering. Candidates must be able to mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars in research, and will be expected to work with a diverse team of colleagues. Those with a variety of work and conflict resolution skills suitable for people from a diversity of cultures and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications:

The candidate must hold an earned Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will have completed at least two years of postdoctoral work or the equivalent.

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is one of three departments in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources. The department has approximately 400 undergraduate students, 20 graduate students, and 18 faculty members. The department has access to modern laboratory facilities including for Genomics, Proteomics, Bioinformatics, and Imaging.
