Job Description:
The Bioinformatician II contributes to Product Support’s two main goals: supporting existing products on the market, and assisting in the transition of new products from research to the market.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams to execute assigned projects, including:

  • Researching issues observed in Lab Operations, determining if diagnostic results are affected, and finding solutions if necessary
  • Identifying and validating assigned process and product improvements
  • Validating reagents, equipment, algorithms, and software
  • Transferring assigned new products from Research to Laboratory Operations
  • Communicate project status and analysis results in a clear, concise manner to the relevant audience
  • Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, ISO and FDA regulations and oversight
  • Follow all Agendia health and safety policies and procedures
  • Assists the Senior Director, Product Support in planning and directing the technical work of other members of Product Support
  • Advises the other members of Product Support on more challenging and/or problematic projects
  • Exercises independent judgement, discretion, initiative, and resourcefulness in defining and executing Product Support projects
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned
Contacts: This position may interact with all departments within the company, especially Lab Operations, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance, R&D, and Medical Affairs; as well as external collaborators and the scientific community.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, statistics, or life science with a strong background in bioinformatics
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 being at commercial companies

Skills and Qualifications Requirements:

Technical :
  • Strong programming experience in R, familiar with other languages (preferably Matlab)
  • Sound knowledge of theoretical and applied statistics and molecular biology
  • Strong knowledge of bioinformatics and/or data science
  • Experience with databases, particularly MS Access, MS SQL Server, or Oracle
  • Familiar with the Microsoft Windows environment and Office applications
Non-Technical :
  • Strong problem solving skills – proven ability to quickly collect information to assess a problem, apply personal experience and expert opinions from others to find a solution, and implement the solution quickly and accurately
  • Strong communication skills – able to fully comprehend complex topics, while being able to distill that knowledge into a clear, concise summary for laypeople
  • Strong time management skills – able to juggle competing priorities, especially maintaining progress on long-term projects in the face of urgent tasks
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Enjoys mentoring and coaching fellow employees
Desired Skills:
  • Experience with microarray data analysis
  • Experience with RNAseq data analysis
  • Experience in a diagnostic testing environment
