Job Description:
Department of Computer Science at Hunter College and The Center for Translational and Basic Research (CTBR) in CUNY are seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist in Computational Biology. The candidate is expected to develop machine learning algorithms and associated software and databases for biomedical data mining, as well as apply them to drug discovery and precision medicine in a highly collaborative environment. The potential projects include but are not limited to construction of multi-layer network of drug-gene-pathway-disease associations by integrating multiple levels of omics data, development of deep neural network algorithms to predict genome-wide chemical-protein interactions, context-specific network based predictive modeling, and multi-view learning using high-dimensional and sparse data.

Other Duties:

Other duties may include:

1. Set up computer hardware and software.

2. Maintain Linux operating system.

3. Manage Mysql and Oracle database server.

Qualifications:

Minimum requirements: The incumbent must have a M.S. in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, computer science, and/or related fields; strong background in machine learning, statistics and working knowledge in biology; effective communication skills; be self-motivated and independent.

Preferred qualifications: Expertise in python, R, or Matlab programming; Experiences in distributed computing using Spark; Familiar with genomics, transcriptomics, or proteomics data analysis.

Salary will depend on the experiences.
