Job Description:
Sam's Club Technology: Data Science & Engineering department is looking for experienced data scientists with a strong mathematical and programming background. Ideal candidates will relish the opportunity to work with Software Engineers in leveraging:

• Machine Learning especially reinforcement learning to understand how people/agents maximize their value in sequential decisions.

• Simulation and Optimization to provide business partners the ability to determine the best scenario.

• Feature Engineering and Signal Processing to extract information from new sources and provide new data

The Data Scientist role is expected to be hands on in all phases of the work and to push the frontier in developing new solutions to the retail industry.

Candidates should have a graduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Operations Research, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Computational Biology or other quantitative disciplines along with several years of work. Experience in the retail industry is helpful but not necessary. Candidates are expected to have sufficient knowledge in programming and algorithms.

Location can be in Bentonville, Arkansas or Austin, Texas.

  • Consults with business stakeholders on data-based insights
  • Drives strategies for analytics across the division
  • Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects
  • Ensures business needs are being met
  • Leads multiple large-scale analytic project teams
  • Leads the continuous improvement of data science and analytics
  • Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity
  • Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 10 years experience in an analytics related field OR Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 8 years experience in an analytics related field.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years experience with big data analytics.
  • 7 years experience with SQL and relational databases (for example, DB2, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • 7 years experience with statistical programming languages (for example, SAS, R).
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics and 17 years experience in an analytics related field.
  • Certificate in business analytics, data mining, or statistical analysis.
  • Doctoral degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, or Mathematics and 9 years experience in an analytics related field.
  • Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, or Mathematics and 12 years experience in an analytics related field.
