Job Description:
The Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome is searching for a Database Manager and Bioinformatics Analyst (DMBA) to work on the Human Trisome Project. The DMBA will be an integral member of a collaborative team facilitating the Human Trisome Project (www.trisome.org), a large cohort study designed to understand why individuals with Down syndrome have a different disease spectrum compared to the typical population. The DMBA will be responsible for managing a participant database containing clinical data and sample information, analyzing -omics datasets, and integrating multi-layered -omics data with clinical information to facilitate discoveries. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works collaboratively with other members of the Human Trisome Project team to provide high-level, professional, and scientifically rigorous data management and bioinformatic analyses.
- Thinks independently and creatively to identify data management and bioinformatic solutions.
- Manages and optimizes a participant database containing clinical data and sample information.
- Creates and disseminates tools for all team members to access relevant clinical and sample data.
- Works with other team members to design well-powered experiments and identify appropriate samples for experimentation.
- Develops and implements complex analyses pipelines, programming, and data visualization techniques for multi-layered -omics datasets (transcriptome, epigenome, proteome, microbiome, etc.)
- Creatively and effectively integrates data from multiple sources to accelerate discoveries.
- Collaborates with other team members to co-author abstracts, oral and poster presentations, and scientific manuscripts.
Qualifications
Qualifications:- Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Data Science, Bioinformatics or related field is required.
- At least two years of experience applying bioinformatic and database management tools to clinical and/or biological data is required.
- Strong knowledge of statistical principles relevant in biomedical research.
- Strong programming skills in common statistical software packages and relational database management (e.g. Python, Perl, SAS, R, SQL).
- Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.
- Ability to work with high performance computing environments and cloud computing.
- Proven self-initiative and ability to catalyze new projects or ideas.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple projects or requests.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive attitude and the ability to work with a variety of biomedical investigators and colleagues.
- Ability to contribute to the growth and development of the Human Trisome Project.
- Three or more years of experience applying bioinformatic and database management tools to clinical and/or biological data.
- Three or more years of experience working in an academic research setting.
- Knowledge and experience in immunology and/or Down syndrome research a plus.
