The mission of the Center for Cancer Genome Discovery (CCGD) at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is to facilitate genome discoveries in a many human cancer types by basic and translational research. The CCGD has established technology platforms to assist researchers in both genome-wide and gene-focused efforts such as next-generation sequencing, genotyping, somatic mutation detection and copy number analysis. We strive to be at the cutting-edge of cancer characterization, utilizing novel technologies and adapting existing technologies for the advancement of cancer research.
Technologies are selected and developed with a view to discovery-oriented ventures, as well as translational medicine and clinical relevance.
Role and Responsibilities:
The Sr. Bioinformatics Analyst will take a lead role in bridging the gap between identification of variants found with our NGS pipelines and reporting by providing biological/clinical context and interpretation of these results. More specifically, he/she will be responsible for developing methods for analyzing cohorts of samples for affected pathways. Additionally, the bioinformatician will integrate all available genomic endpoints (SNVs, indels, rearrangements, CNV, and expression) to produce a complete picture of a cohort’s mutational profile. Finally, the analyst must visualize these results for collaborators in a clear and concise manner.
Additional duties may include, but are not limited to:
Identify opportunities and develop innovative solutions for the analysis, integration, and representation of data from multiple `omics’ endpoints.
Work closely with CCGD scientists in the design and analysis of internal research projects
Provide direct technical and scientific support for CCGD investigators and staff
Presenting novel processes and findings at conferences, in papers, and similar venues.
Requirements
PhD or MS in biology, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics and 5+ years relevant experience. Previous experience in biology, cancer or genomics is required.
Working knowledge of Java and OOD principles is preferred.
Experience performing statistical analysis on large data sets, including proficiency in R.
Excellent communication and effective problem-solving skills; and ability to interact with multidisciplinary staff in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, prioritize and manage a variety of tasks, and shift priorities rapidly.
Schedule
Full time, 40 hours per week
