The Department of Computer Science and the Center for Bioinformatics within the Faculty of Science at the University of Tübingen, Germany, invites applications for the position of a

Junior/Assistant Professor (W1) for Medical Bioinformatics (with Tenure Track)

Candidates are expected to have a research profile with a focus on medical applications of bioinformatics methods and are expected to teach within the established curricula for bioinformatics and medical informatics. Since candidates are expected to interact closely with the Center for Personalized Medicine and the Center for Bioinformatics in Tübingen, a research focus in the analysis of molecular high-throughput data (genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) would be favorable.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Prerequisites are a degree in bioinformatics or a related subject as well as an excellent publication record. Experience with independent teaching and student supervision as well as the acquisition of external funding is desirable. The junior professor will be appointed as a civil servant for an initial duration of four years. Following a positive evaluation, the appointment may be extended for two more years. The junior professorship can be turned into a lifetime (W3) professorship following a second evaluation procedure after six years (tenure-track). Candidates are expected to qualify for a full professorship during the initial period of six years. Teaching load is between four and six hours per week.
