Job Description:
ISB is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to participate in a multi-institution project that aims to uncover mechanisms behind activation of the immune system in response to pathogens. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for data analysis and developing algorithms and software tools in support of project research objectives. The Postdoctoral Fellow will pursue research in close collaboration with experimental biologists. This project uses a Systems Biology approach to identify and characterize key molecular components of the immune response. The successful candidate will join a diverse team of scientists working together to facilitate cutting-edge immunology research.

Essential Functions:

-Designing, implementing and evaluating computational analyses to meet project objectives.

-Participating in writing project updates and reports, proposals, and scientific articles.

-Maintaining current knowledge of research literature and activity in bioinformatics and computational biology and applying state-of-the-art concepts and technologies.

-Collaborating with investigators within and outside the Institute, in furtherance of project objectives.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a PhD in life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, computer science or engineering, and have 2 years experience in computational biology, involving the design and implementation of algorithms applied to the analysis of biological data. Past experience must indicate scientific creativity, collaboration, and independent thought. Strong analytical and programming skills are essential. Experience with common bioinformatics methods, tools, websites and data resources is highly desired, in particular high-throughput data analysis tools and techniques, genome sequence analysis, and experience retrieving, manipulating and managing data from public data repositories such as NCBI, UCSC, and Ensembl. Knowledge of statistics and the ability to work with a variety of different biological data types are also highly desired. Must have excellent interpersonal and communications skills and a high degree of professional integrity. Must be adaptable to changing work requirements, and be willing to multitask.
