Job Description:
The Bioinformaticist will work as an application developer/analyst to help develop, maintain and refine bioinformatics workflows and analytical tools for genomic data analysis. This person will have practical knowledge of bioinformatics tools and resources and experience with Next Generation sequencing analysis including alignment, variant calling, and downstream annotating. This includes working with various Next Generation sequencing software packages, public genomic databases, and variant annotation databases. Will work as part of a team with other data analysts and bioinformatics experts in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment. Responsibilities: 1. Uses Information Technology skills and competencies to design, develop and implement: a. Programs using methods such as R and/or MATLAB, C/C++, Perl, SQL, PHP, Java, or Python. b. Standard bioinformatics tools and visualization packages. c. Automated processing and analysis of large data sets. d. Rational databases to store, disseminate and analyze data, including verification of data submitted and recommendations for analyses. e. Algorithms and computer software for analyzing high-throughput, massively parallel genomic data sets. f. Web interfaces and queries to access relational databases. Maintains web server. 2. Collaborate effectively with research and clinical disciplines to design and develop in-house bioinformatics tools. 3. Effectively manages workload through one or more of the following: a. Good analytical and problem solving ability. b. Excellent organization and time management skills. c. Work independently as well as with other team members to tackle complex problems. 4. Maintains professional standards by setting professional goals and participating in activities to meet goals. 5. Participates in Laboratory activities in one or more of the following: a. Policy/procedure review and revision.

BS/MS in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biology or related field with experience in bioinformatics. 2. Experience in human genetics highly preferred.
