Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced bioinformatician and people manager to replace our current CTO as he nears the end of his tenure. As the ELIXIR CTO you would join a dynamic and international team at the ELIXIR Hub in Hinxton, UK, to lead and develop a ELIXIR’s technical operations and portfolio of scientific services. ELIXIR’s CTO leads the Hub Technical Coordination team of senior technical experts and is responsible for managing and continuously developing the team and team-members to ensure that ELIXIR effectively coordinates service delivery from our national partners. The ELIXIR CTO works with our national partners and international collaborators to bring together scientific and technical input for the development and operation of ELIXIR’s portfolio of scientific services. The ELIXIR CTO is responsible for establishing and maintaining our scientific and technical governance processes include data security, ELSI compliance, and service performance. ELIXIR is a distributed research infrastructure, built around strong collaboration between our 21 national nodes, and a key responsibility for the ELIXIR CTO is to foster and support the technical collaboration between the Nodes to ensure coordinated progress towards a sustainable European infrastructure for biological information. The ELIXIR CTO is expected to take the lead role in development and writing of the technical components of grant applications and proactively, in collaboration with Nodes and other partners, identify new grant opportunities in the technical domain. He/She establishes and maintains effective relationships with key national and European stakeholders such as those involved in ESFRI, and the scientific community. Qualifications and Experience: University degree in the field of life-science, computer science, or related discipline with solid experience of bioinformatics / medical informatics research and service delivery. An advanced degree in one these fields is a plus. Demonstrated understanding of information security vulnerabilities and risk management. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with people management experience. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams to deliver against agreed outcomes, develop clarity and manage multiple stakeholder needs. Strategic thinking and a demonstrated ability to predict and project technical developments and needs. The post-holder will also need knowledge and practical experience of service operation and business process development, governance processes, management, budgeting, and administrative operations. A high level of literacy is required with documented ability to effectively communicate with excellent verbal and written English. Working knowledge to a professional level of additional European languages is a strong asset for the role.
