Job Description:
Join a dynamic team of bioinformaticians, software engineers, scientific researchers, and usability specialists dedicated to enable precision medicine and improve outcomes for patients

This role is responsible for providing key cancer bioinformatics expertise for our Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) program. The position liaises with project team and scientific staff at Aarhus and also at other QIAGEN sites worldwide.

The successful candidate will help lead the design of sequencing (NGS) panel assays for oncology applications by:

- Translating clinical and molecular pathologist input into gene target regions for panels.

- Review curated databases of genetic variants to prioritize target regions by clinical importance in terms of cancer progression, prognosis, and drug resistance .

- Review scientific evidence on the impact of genetic alterations on cancer progression and drug resistance.

- Develop assay design summary and comparison materials for marketing and development efforts.

The responsibilities of the Senior Bioinformatician are:

- Provide NGS bioinformatics leadership and support to the NGS programme.

- Refine and run next generation sequencing analysis pipelines for panel development purposes, using QIAGEN BioX software.

- Liaise closely with project and scientific staff on next generation sequencing PCR assay design and development, data processing and reporting.

- Provide inputs into study design for assay development.

- Analyse genomic data and reports results. Develop SQL / Python based programs for wet lab validation data analysis and content comparisons.

Position Requirements

- MSc (or higher) in Bioinformatics or Cancer biology or related degree.

- Experienced with bioinformatics NGS software applications including read alignment and variant detection software, database tools, (SQL) and scripting tools (e.g. Perl, Java, C++).

- Strong knowledge of cancer genomics and biology. Experience with cancer relevant databases (e.g. COSMIC), clinicaltrials.gov, and variant interpretation software (e.g. Ingenuity) in support of in silico assay design.

- Both new graduates and candidates already experienced in the analysis of high throughput sequencing data are encouraged to apply.
