Job Description:
WAVE is looking for a human geneticist with strong coding skills and experiences who will help design and build the next generation of software tools for the development of oligonucleotide therapeutics and genomic analysis. This will include the development of novel databases of biological and clinical genomics data, as well as processes and dedicated pipelines/workflows that empower scientists to generate novel insights and drive the drug discovery pipeline. This person will have: a strong coding and web development background, experience working as part of interdisciplinary teams of chemists and biological scientists, and an understanding of target discovery and validation using human genetics information in a biopharmaceutical setting.

Requirements

Degree & general requirements:

• Minimum Ph.D. in human genetics, bioinformatics or a related degree

• Excellent communicator; able to plan, summarize and explain work to collaborative teams and management

• Excellent prioritization and triage skills

• Industry experience preferred but not required

Domain expertise:

• Application of human genetics on target discovery and validation

• Strong statistical background (classical & Bayesian techniques)

• Familiarity with biological & genomic databases, and methods for programmatic access to such (e.g., Bioconductor packages)

• Understanding of principals of short oligonucleotide design

• NGS data processing and statistical algorithms for inference (RNA-seq, WGS, etc)

• Data production workflow design, evaluation/validation and implementation

• Understanding of the principals of database use (Oracle & graphical Db), and data warehousing & data lake concepts

• Web development; deployment of algorithmic tools

• Understanding of common chemical structure representation formats (sdf, Mol, Inchi, HELM, Rxn, etc)

• Familiarity with laboratory robotics programming

• Taxonomy/ontology development and practical use
