Job Description:
Adjunct Faculty will teach classes in the Department of Biology, on an as needed basis. Background in computational biology/bioinformatics. Will teach graduate level courses for the concentration in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics portion of the Master of Science in Data Science program. Classes will be delivered in an online setting and/or on site as 8 week long course sessions. The instructor will be expected to teach using previously developed syllabi and course design, with modifications as deemed necessary upon consultation with the department chair and program director. It is expected that instructional methods will utilize biological data sets or problems as a basis for hands-on application of appropriate computational analyses, simulations and/or visualizations. Responsibilities: Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education. -Teach one or more classes; courses may include BIOL 50900 (Introduction to Computational Biology), 51000 (Data Systems in the Life Sciences), 51200 (Research in Biotechnology) and/or 59000 (Data Science Project for Life Scientists) -Availability to hold office hours and meet with other faculty members and department chairs or directors when necessary -Serve as a model of professionalism and act as a resource for students within the teaching-learning environment. Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree or PhD in a field related to data science or the life sciences and experience in the field of computational biology/bioinformatics. Preferred Qualifications: Previous teaching experience preferred.
