Job Description:
This position will support the soil microbiology and ecology program that : 1) Develops innovate, next generation technologies to identify the plant microbes and link their function to the plant fitness, nutrient cycling, and crop production. 2) Surveys the microbial communities through collecting and analyzing field samples (i.e. soils and plant biomass). 3) Develops greenhouse and growth chamber based bioassay systems to specialize the function of plant and/or rhizosphere associated microorganisms and maintains the quality of procedures for top quality research results. 4) develops integrative approaches to find modular structures in plant-microbial-soil networks. 5) Disseminates the research findings to the public and industries through extension action. 6) Provides educational and outreach activities to describe the research to the broad Florida audience and the nation. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Doctoral degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field; or a master's degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in agricultural science, biology, or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience. Valid driver's license. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.S. in molecular biology, soil sciences, microbiology, plant pathology, bioinformatics or related area with technical knowledge and skills specific to microbiology, molecular biology and biotechnology, and 1 year of experience working in a molecular biology laboratory. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

ADVERTISED SALARY: $37,000.00; commensurate with qualification's and experience. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS: This individual should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs such as WORD, EXCEL, and OUTLOOK. This individual will occasionally apply pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and other chemicals necessary for research projects. Outdoor physical activity is a regular part of responsibilities that includes planting, repotting, field sample harvest, and data collection. Within one year of employment: Florida Public Pesticide Applicator License including subcategories of: 1) Pest Control and 2) Demonstration and Research.
