Genetics Assistant Professor Tenure-track Description: The Department of Biology at Millersville University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in August 2015 (Fall term). The ideal candidate can teach undergraduate courses in introductory biology, genetics, and an upper level course in an area of specialization, and develop an active research program that involves undergraduates. It is desirable that the candidate has interests that complement existing programs in the department. The Department of Biology, in the School of Science and Mathematics, presently consists of 19 full-time faculty positions, several part-time faculty positions, three support staff and more than 750 majors. In addition to the B.S. Biology degree, the department offers programs in animal behavior, botany, ecology, marine biology, molecular biology/biotechnology, secondary education, respiratory therapy, medical technology, nuclear medicine technology, optometry, pre-podiatry, and athletic training. Laboratories are well equipped and the facilities are excellent since the completion of a new science facility in 2000. There is a natural area and small and medium-sized ponds located on campus. In addition, Millersville University is a founding and active member of the Chincoteague Bay Field Station in Wallops Island, Virginia. Required: An earned PhD in genetics or closely related field. Post-doctoral research in genetics or closely related field. Ability to establish a research program in genetics that involves undergraduate students. Post-secondary level teaching experience (documented by at least two letters of reference). Ability to teach a course in genetics with a laboratory component that involves the use of a variety of organisms, courses in introductory biology for majors and non-majors, and an upper division course in his/her area of specialty. Commitment to: excellence in teaching; working with students from diverse backgrounds; effective academic advisement. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Successful interview and teaching demonstration. Preferred: Training and experience sufficient to teach a course in plant genetics and/or bioinformatics.
