Job Description:
The Assistant Scientist, at the Lewis Katz School Fels Institute department, will assist the Bioinformatics Scientist with the development and maintenance of the next generation sequencing pipelines for analysis of RNA and DNA sequencing data. The incumbent will perform bioinformatics analysis, utilizing R or Python language programming, for high-throughput datasets generated by Fels investigators, prepare detailed reports and graphs to summarize analyses and results, and present the results to core and internal groups. The Assistant Scientist will trained to analyze and troubleshoot multi-omics data including RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq, Whole Genome and Exome sequencing and methylation arrays.

The incumbent will also maintain and update the bioinformatics server by organizing files on the server in accordance with established protocols; contribute to refining existing protocols and defining new ones; and systematically clean up files.

In addition, the Assistant Scientist will collaborate with and support internal investigators at Fels by mining result sets and genetic data sets to extract information relevant to specific requests from the core group or collaborators. He/She will also be responsible for scheduling collaborative sessions between individual investigators and bioinformatics core group. The Assistant Scientist will contribute with manuscripts and grant proposals, as requested. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least two years of related experience in the field of genetics, molecular biology or bioinformatics. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:

*Demonstrated computer skills, including working knowledge of R statistical programming language or Python scripting language.

*Demonstrated understanding of data-driven statistical modeling.

*Demonstrated proficiency with Unix/Linux.

*Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work with a diverse constituent population.

*Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.

*Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented.

*Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills, along with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred:

*Familiarity with repositories of genomic data sets and analysis tools, such as TCGA, ICGC, COSMIC, ENCODE, ExAc, UCSC Genome Browser.
