Job Description:
A computationally-oriented laboratory led by Rameen Beroukhim at the Broad Institute seeks a bioinformatics engineer to join in efforts to develop and apply cutting-edge genomic technologies to determine optimal treatment strategies for patients with brain and other cancers. This research associate will be involved in cross-disciplinary efforts to generate large datasets describing genetic mutations in thousands of tumors and to develop and apply sophisticated statistical and computational approaches to analyzing these data. The aim of these efforts will be to characterize mutations that cause various types of cancer and to determine how to treat patients with these cancers.

The ideal candidate will have extensive programming ability, strong analytical skills and solid background in mathematics and statistics with a deep interest and background in biology. The ability to collaborate closely with other members of a research team is essential.

Characteristic Duties:

  • Apply existing analytic algorithms to large genomic datasets for the discovery of genomic alterations in cancer
  • Work with researchers and computational biologists to develop and code new algorithms related to various aspects of cancer genomics research
  • Interact with users and other stakeholders to determine and prioritize requirements.
The Following Are Essential For This Position:
  • A minimum of a Bachelors Degree or equivalent
  • A strong background in programming, preferably in R, C/C++, MATLAB.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving, organizational, and people skills.
  • A strong interest and background in biology is preferred.
  • Exposure to an analytic field such as bioinformatics, computational biology, machine learning, or statistics is preferred.
  • A minimum two-year commitment is required
