Job Description:
Working with the Director of Bioinformatics, the Associate Director of Bioinformatics will contribute to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and best practices to accomplish the mission of the Biocomputing Department. This entails both a leadership role in formulating goals and making recommendations on the direction of the Bioinformatics Group within the larger Department as well as leading aspects of the development of novel and existing methods. The Associate Director will work on complex problems in which analysis of genomic data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. This includes keen judgment in defining methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results and ensuring that budgets, schedules and performance requirements are met. Work will be performed with minimal supervision on complex projects. The ideal candidate should possess a broad level of technological experience spanning high-performance computing, genomics data management, software design, and solution architecture and system integration.

Requirements

Education/Credentials required: PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computer Science, or relevant technical field

Experience/Skills required:

-Expert proficiency in the use of biological databases and on-line resources/tools

-Proficiency with at least two of the following technologies: Perl, Python, Java, C#, Javascript

-Proficiency with scientific programming experience or tool development experience in sequencing analysis or genotyping, Linux or Shell scripting

-Demonstrated work experience developing novel methods and algorithms

-Demonstrated work experience managing complex projects with minimal supervision

-Demonstrated leadership experience including leading technical discussions, providing guidance to less experienced peers and establishing standards for Bioinformatics teams

Physical and other requirements:

-Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal English -Continual assessment of current scientific literature/public databases
