Job Description:
The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at University of Illinois College of Medicine is embarking on a new initiative in epigenetics and systems biology. The initiative will involve the recruitment of several senior faculty (tenured Full Professor or Associate Professor) to spearhead the initiative. The areas of expertise we anticipate recruiting include biochemistry, molecular genetics, cell biology and bioinformatics of epigenetic mechanisms as they apply to the investigation of healthy and disease states. The Department has a rich intellectual environment in biomedical research encompassing structural biology, mechanistic biochemistry, membrane biology, control of gene expression, cell cycle regulation, cell metabolism and cancer biology. We intend this new program to provide the nexus of College of Medicine-wide activities in epigenetics, and anticipate close collaborations with scientists in several of our clinical departments. We plan to initially recruit 2 senior investigators. Candidates for senior appointments will be expected to be leaders of active, federally funded research programs, and will play a lead role in subsequent hiring in this area. Attractive recruitment packages and support will be offered.
