The Drug Discovery Unit employs state-of-the-art facilities directed toward the discovery of novel, clinically relevant treatments for a variety of different cancer types. Our aim is to understand the fundamental basis of cancer and apply that knowledge to developing new treatment strategies for cancer patients. Our advanced research programmes span a spectrum of cancer research, from the molecular and cellular basis of cancer through to drug discovery, translational research and clinical trials.

The Institute has outstanding laboratory facilities and exceptional core services, including next generation sequencing, microarrays, confocal microscopy, bioinformatics, histology and mass-spectrometry. We are currently looking for a Biochemistry Team Leader within the Drug Discovery Unit. The aim of this post is to lead, manage and motivate a small team of biologists to deliver compound screening and high quality assay development aligned to the needs of the DDU portfolio of projects.

The successful applicant should have a PhD in a Bioscience (or related field) along with postdoctoral experience working in a drug discovery environment. They will also have extensive experience of developing and validating biochemical assays; an understanding of automation and its practical application; experience of compound management systems and their practical implementation; experience of line or matrix management and demonstrable practical experience of project management.
