Job Description:
This individual will work closely with leaders across the Company including Computational Biology, Clinical Development Sciences, Value Based Medicine, Market Access, Commercial Decision Support, Process Analytics, HR Analytics, Corporate Strategy, Business Development, Research Therapeutic Areas, Medical Insights and Competitive Intelligence. The data scientist will identify opportunities and extract value from internal and external datasets on focused analytical problems aligned to direct business imperatives. Such business imperatives include extracting insights from our world-leading Multiple Sclerosis data, changing the management of disease from episodic to continuous using sensors in commodity devices through data-driven approaches and mining information across multiple public and proprietary data sources for real world evidence of therapies. He/she will provide the leadership, intellectual impetus and sense of urgency for analytical initiatives that may encompass the full scope of data and analysis lifecycle management working with other Data Scientists, Information Scientists, Architects, Developers and Business Analysts in this newly formed group.

Key accountability:
1. Work with stakeholders to understand business questions and gather data necessary to answer those questions
2. Perform data aggregation, cleansing, analysis and interpretation
3. Data visualization, reporting, and communication
4. Participate in innovation experiments and data jams for business analytics, business intelligence and data visualization and reporting

Qualifications
Deep experience in one of more of the following: Exploratory Data Analysis techniques, Machine Learning (Decision trees, Neural networks, SVM, Clustering, Classification, Bayesian networks), Model validation techniques, rules engines, and graph analytics techniques
• Deep expertise in one or more of the following: Bash, HTML5, PERL, Processing, Python and R
• Proficiency with several of the following: distributed and high performance computing, data visualization, data engineering, pipelining and wrangling tools
• Burning desire to extract value from data and information, whether internal or external
• Passion for critically applying mathematical approaches to imperfect data
• Experience in bioinformatics, medical informatics, clinical informatics or other forms of informatics highly desired
• Knowledge of data management approaches e.g. relational databases, object stores, column stores, triple stores, graph stores, document stores desired
• Experience working in cross-functional groups at the intersection of data analytics and computational technologies desired
Education
BA/BSc required, MS or PhD preferred in information sciences, computer sciences, informatics or discipline requiring intense data analysis
