Dr. Wendy Chung's Lab at Columbia University Medical Center in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Analyst with strong expertise in bioinformatics to lead data analysis in large-scale genome sequencing studies of human diseases. The Chung lab studies human monogenic and complex diseases and clinical implementation of genomic medicine, two critical components of precision medicine. Major ongoing projects include genetic studies autism (SPARK: https://sparkforautism.org), congenital heart disease, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, atypical diabetes, pulmonary arterial hypertension, and rare birth defects or developmental disorders. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be required to carry out the following duties and responsibilities:
- Apply state-of-the-art computational methods to analyze large-scale whole genome and exome sequence data to support data analysis in genetic studies.
- Improve robust and highly automated computational pipelines to identify and interpret genetic variants from sequencing data.
- Collect and curate publicly available genomic data sets to support integrative analysis in genetic studies.
- In addition, the candidate will have opportunities to lead a research project in either human genetics or bioinformatics method development.
- Participate in writing of manuscripts.
- Demonstrated experience in high-throughput sequencing data analysis or method development.
- Knowledge of population genetics, statistical genetics, and molecular biology.
- Programming: fluency with at least one general-purpose programming language (such as Python, Perl or Swift) and one language for scientific comuting (such as R or MATLAB). Experience with source code version control systems.
- Strong creative thinking and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, good writing, and teamwork.
- Graduate degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, or equivalent.
- Research experience in human genetic studies
