Job Description:
The primary function of this position is to serve as a scientist and bioinformatician within the Biomedical Research Informatics Center (BRIC), actively participating in activities related to computational biology, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), and related emerging technologies. Proficiency in statistics, computational biology, and genomics are essential for this position. Duties include providing core services for Research and Clinical investigators by applying existing analytical techniques within the field of Bioinformatics and extending existing analysis pipelines or developing new pipelines as needed under the supervision of the Center Director and in coordination with the Associate Director.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform analyses of NGS and related data using existing analysis programs and pipelines.
  • Extend existing analysis pipelines and/or develop new pipelines as needed to meet the needs of the BRIC clients.
  • Undertake independent and collaborative research, including the development of new analytic procedures. Design and conduct original research.
  • Read and interpret peer-reviewed publications to improve and advance the BRIC services.
  • Assist in ensuring that BRIC meets all regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in updates to policies and procedures as required.
  • Advise in the design of NGS experiments and the analysis and interpretation of results from NGS experiments.
  • Prepare presentations for scientific meetings, describing research results and preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee’s supervisor.
Additional Requirements:

Post Graduate (6+ years of formal training/education beyond high school; e.g., Ph.D., M.D., J.D.)

Indepth knowledge of computational biology, genomic and other ‘omic’ analysis techniques
