Job Description:
BIOINFORMATICIAN, Picower Institute for Learning and Memory (PILM), to utilize existing and develop in-house computational pipelines for analysis of omics datasets, with particular focus on next-generation DNA sequencing (NGS) platform for standard RNA-seq, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-seq, single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq), and Hi-C. Will apply bioinformatics techniques to published/unpublished data for the analysis and interpretation of omic datasets; and conduct data mining exercises by integrating public and in-house datasets to mine for protein-protein interactions, mRNA distribution in specific brain regions, and cell type-specific transcriptional and epigenetic profiles to assist investigators elucidate novel biological pathways relevant to learning and memory and neurodegenerative diseases. Responsibilities include utilizing available software and pipelines to generate and analyze NGS datasets from DNA- and RNA-based experiments; developing and using scripts to create and manipulate data files; managing bioinformatics server; coordinating PILM bioinformatics resources/projects with bioinformatics community at MIT and Broad Institute; aiding researchers select and use computational and statistical tools relevant to their projects; incorporating information from published human and mouse genome, gene expression profiles, and genome-wide association studies in the analysis and interpretation of NGS results; implementing solutions and novel strategies to resolve analytical problems and improve interpretation of results; reporting project data to investigators and organizing datasets in preparation for publication in peer-reviewed journals; and helping researchers stay informed of relevant bioinformatics-related techniques.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in biology, bioinformatics or related field; four-plus years’ experience in bioinformatics; strong statistical analysis background; excellent organizational and analytical skills; familiarity with data visualization methods; willingness to share understanding of bioinformatics approaches and tools and provide mentorship; and ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
