Job Description:
We are currently seeking to recruit a new staff member to provide bioinformatics support the analysis of high-throughput data within the Centre and provide advice and support to scientists interested in analysis of data. The post-holder will be expected to interact with Centre staff directly and build a portfolio of collaborative bioinformatics projects in direct response to the needs of CRM researchers. The successful applicant will be expected to interact with the wider scientific community in Edinburgh and contribute to existing bioinformatics networks such as the Edinburgh Bioinformatics network and NextGenBugs (http://nextgenbug.org/). The post-holder will also be expected to deliver bioinformatics training within the CRM and within the wider community as required. (www.bioinformatics.ed.ac.uk) The successful applicant should have a PhD or at a minimum an honours degree in biological sciences, statistics or computer science and significant postgraduate experience of bioinformatics research. The ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate proficiency in high-level statistics applied to the analysis of high-throughput data such as microarrays or next-generation sequencing data. The post-holder will be involved in many high-impact projects and so the successful applicant should be able to demonstrate that they are capable of completing high-profile analysis work to an excellent standard. Applicants will be expected to be proficient in minimally one general scripting language (such as Perl or Python) and be expert in using R and be a proficient user of Unix (Linux).
