Job Description:
Work as a bioinformatics scientist for Booz Allen Hamilton. Focus on laboratory and technical services that support research and development for genetic and genomic analyses, clinical microbial and viral metagenomic sequencing, environmental metagenomic analysis, pathogen identification and analysis, biochemical characterization, and phylogenetic and antimicrobial resistance analyses. Use bioinformatics software and platforms to solve problems and analyze data. Apply expertise in advanced analytics working with industry leading computing technologists and data scientists to solve large–scale, complex, and challenging business problems across the public and private sectors. Allocate across markets and industries, address business challenges, perform analysis, explain the analysis to the clients, and provide solutions to the problem with data driven products. Develop machine learning, data mining, and statistical and graph–based algorithms designed to analyze massive data sets and ensure proper implementation and usage of algorithms. Serve as a client interface and participate in requirements gathering and analysis, process and systems definition, data analysis, presentation of analysis to the clients, and development of algorithm–driven products and solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with or coursework in molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, or biochemistry
  • Experience with using Linux and similar systems and programming using languages, including Python, Perl, Java, C++, or C#
  • Experience with designing and implementing machine learning, data mining, statistics, and graph algorithms
  • Experience with R and similar coding languages
  • Experience with the development or understanding of HPC and Cloud–based parallel computing
  • Knowledge of NGS technologies
  • Ability to function independently with limited oversight
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and be flexible to meet evolving client needs
  • BS degree
Additional Qualifications:
  • Experience with Web development
  • Experience with building bioinformatic pipelines for public health NGS assays
  • Experience with publishing articles in peer–reviewed publications
  • Knowledge of genetic testing, including NGS for public health and Advanced Molecular Detection
  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills to explain and present complex scientific concepts
  • BS degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field preferred; MS degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field a plus
