Job Description:
We are seeking a Bioinformatician/Computational Bioscientist in Microbiology to work with Professors Sarah Walker, Derrick Crook and Tim Peto within the established, multi-disciplinary Modernising Medical Microbiology (MMM) research group.

The main purpose of this role is to provide computational biology and bioinformatics expertise for MMM as part of a team of bioinformaticians. The postholder will contribute to running and improving the automated sequence processing and analysis software developed by the group, working in very close co-operation with the group’s population/statistical geneticists and team of software engineers, and covering both Illumina and Nanopore sequence data. They will be involved in specific research projects exploiting the large genomic and clinical data warehouses generated by the group.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or MSc in a relevant scientific field, or substantial relevant experience. They will have a keen interest in microbiology and/or pathogen genomics and demonstrated ability to work successfully with individuals across different disciplines. They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to organise work time and deliver results to the required standard on schedule.

The post is full-time and fixed-term for up to 2 years initially.
