Job Description:
This part time position requires a dynamic individual with a strong sense of curiosity and a love of learning and exploring. By leveraging their background in Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics or Science, the Bioinformatician will quickly learn about Beckman Coulter’s business and how our customers use our products. With this knowledge they will focus on leveraging the data that we collect from our remotely connected instruments in hospitals and commercial labs around the world, as well as our internal business data to help our customers increase their revenue, improve the efficiency of their operations and reduce errors.

Project Description:

Current projects include prototyping data analyses that give insights to population health questions. By merging our instrument data with knowledge from physicians, well known documentation and other sources, we are exploring what assumptions can be made about general populations and disease or health states. The candidate will be working with Beckman data scientists and other Beckman associates with knowledge in the medical field to create data sets and visualizations specific to distributions of tests as well as combinations and associated disease states. Other projects include trending of instrument data for use by the Beckman service organization to monitor and predict issues with Controls and Calibrations.

Qualifications:

· Currently in school working to obtain a Bachelors or Masters degree in statistics, bioinformatics, or applied mathematics or science (Biology or Chemistry preferred) with interest in obtaining bioinformatics experience, or computer science disciplines specific to data analysis, mining and statistical modeling

· Although there will be opportunities to learn on the job, experiences or classwork utilizing complex data modeling, predictive analysis techniques and statistical or math packages like R, SAS, Matlab, Jump, and Spotfire are a plus

· Understanding and, if possible, experience with Relational databases, table structures, indexes

· Exposure to Hadoop and “big data” related technologies and techniques

· Additional skills with SQL, PL/SQLProgramming languages like JAVA, C#, VBA or LAMP is a plus
