Job Description:
This part time position requires a dynamicindividual with a strong sense of curiosity and a love of learning andexploring. By leveraging theirbackground in Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics or Science, the Bioinformaticianwill quickly learn about Beckman Coulter’s business and how our customers useour products. With this knowledge theywill focus on leveraging the data that we collect from our remotely connectedinstruments in hospitals and commercial labs around the world, as well as ourinternal business data to help our customers increase their revenue, improvethe efficiency of their operations and reduce errors.

Project Description:

Current projects include prototyping data analyses that give insights topopulation health questions. By mergingour instrument data with knowledge from physicians, well known documentationand other sources, we are exploring what assumptions can be made about generalpopulations and disease or health states. The candidate will be working with Beckman data scientists and otherBeckman associates with knowledge in the medical field to create data sets andvisualizations specific to distributions of tests as well as combinations andassociated disease states. Otherprojects include trending of instrument data for use by the Beckman serviceorganization to monitor and predict issues with Controls and Calibrations.

  • Currentlyin school working to obtain a Bachelors or Masters degree in statistics,bioinformatics, or applied mathematicsor science (Biology or Chemistry preferred) with interest in obtaining bioinformaticsexperience, or computer science disciplines specific to data analysis, miningand statistical modeling
  • Althoughthere will be opportunities to learn on the job, experiences or classworkutilizing complex data modeling, predictive analysis techniques and statisticalor math packages like R, SAS, Matlab, Jump, and Spotfire are a plus
  • Understandingand, if possible, experience withRelational databases, table structures, indexes
  • Exposureto Hadoop and “big data” related technologies and techniques
  • Additionalskills with SQL, PL/SQLProgramming languages like JAVA, C#, VBA or LAMP is aplus
