Job Description:
For the partner site of DKTK München the German Cancer Research Center is seeking a Bioinformatician (Ref-No. 192/2017)

We are looking for a bioinformatician (PhD student or postdoc) to undertake the analysis of genomic data from projects carried out by our team and collaborating partners. We perform genetic screens using transposon-based insertional mutagenesis and CRISPR / Cas9, including cancer gene discovery screens in mice and drug sensitivity / resistance screens in vitro (e.g. Science 2010, 330:1104-7; Nature Genetics 2015;47(1):47-56; PNAS 2015;10;112(45):13982-7; Nature com.2016; Feb 26;7:10770). We are also generating genomic datasets from stem cells and mouse / human tumours using whole-exome sequencing, gene expression profiling, comparative genomic hybridization, whole-genome methylation profiling and chromatin immunoprecipitation (e.g. Cancer Cell. 2013;24(1):15-29; Nature. 2012 May 16;486(7403):400-4.).

The analysis, integration and visualisation of such large genomic datasets will be an important role of the successful applicant. Ongoing work also includes the development of a database infrastructure for the integration of genomic and clinical patient data in a combined research / translational setting. The successful candidate will be expected to run own projects and to also support the needs of the team and collaborators regarding bioinformatics analyses. She/he will be affiliated at the German Cancer Research Center (German Cancer Consortium) and the Technical University of Munich. The group is based in Munich.

Your profile:

Experience and education: master's degree in bioinformatics or equivalent expertise in a relevant subject area (e.g. computational biology, genetics / genomics, computer sciences, physics or similar); scientific experience in genomic data analysis is essential.

Desired skills:

basic programming skills (e.g. in pearl, Python, Jawa, Shell scripting); good knowledge in basic statistical techniques, experience with a statistical software package (preferably R); experience with analysis of -omics data sets and genomic databases; basic knowledge in genetics.
