Job Description:
Personalis is a genome-scale diagnostics company pioneering genome-guided medicine. Our research and clinical products are focused on diagnosis and treatment of cancer and genetic disease. Located in Menlo Park, CA, we are seeking an individual with experience in bioinformatics and human genetics to join a team developing leading-edge genomics assays and analysis tools at the core of a new generation of high accuracy, genomics-based diagnostics for cancer and genetic disease.

Responsibilities:

-Participate in the design, development, analysis and delivery of pioneering, high-accuracy clinical sequencing assays, sample prep methods and analysis tools.

-Analyze DNA and RNA sequencing data using Personalis bioinformatics pipelines and tools.

-Develop QC metrics, gold standard datasets and tools for systematically testing and evaluating the accuracy of newly developed assays and methods.

-Develop and enhance bioinformatics methods for improving the accuracy and performance of new and existing assays and sample prep methods.

-Work closely in collaboration with the Laboratory and Assay R&D team.

-Work on cross-functional teams to innovate on laboratory and informatics tools to improve accuracy, QC tracking and diagnostic yield.

-Participate in both internal research projects and external research collaborations.

Requirements:

-Experience working with and analyzing genomic sequencing data from the Illumina HiSeq instrument.

-Experience using standard genomics/bioinformatics tools, e.g. BWA, Samtools, Picard, GATK, MuTect, IGV, Novoalign, ANNOVAR, SnpEff.

-General understanding of human molecular genetics.

-Familiarity with using and scripting UNIX shell; e.g. Bash.

-Ability to implement and document computational algorithms in common scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Python, R).

-Experience with high performance computing (HPC), SGE, NAS, and cloud computing a plus.

-Knowledge of relational database design and programming with databases a plus. (MySQL, Oracle).

-Matlab experience desirable.

-Strong team-oriented work ethic with open, honest, and considerate communication skills.

-Experience with SCRUM development environments a plus.

-Ability to collaborate with other scientists, researchers, and clinicians.

Education / Experience:

Advanced degree (PhD or MS) in human genetics, molecular genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field. Three or more years experience post-degree work in bioinformatics.
