To support the wide range of cancer-related biomedical research, clinical and translational research, epidemiological research and clinical trials at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research at Einstein and Montefiore (ICTR) is inviting talented, motivated and experienced individuals with background in clinical and epidemiological research, research data processing, and data management to join our team. You will be part of a dynamic team of informaticians, investigators, research administrators, and information technologists building novel clinical informatics infrastructure and will have a chance to participate in exciting research spanning from basic science to public health.
THE POSITION
The Bioinformatics Analyst will be part of the ICTR and participate as a team member in cancer-related clinical and translational research projects. The Bioinformatics Analyst will apply their knowledge and expertise in the life cycle of a research project, by refining the research ideas based on availability and application of existing informatics resources, development of competitive grant applications and project proposals by applying novel and innovative informatics and information technology solutions, data management processes, and ensuring proper protection and security of private and protected health information and patient confidentiality. The Bioinformatics Analyst will be responsible for training investigators and research staff on applications and use of informatics solutions and tools, and help them manage their research protocols in accordance with the institutional guidelines and existing best practices.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consult with investigators (clinical, basic, epidemiologists, etc.) to identify opportunities and bottlenecks for proper data collection and data management throughout the life cycle of a research project
Participate in design, implementation, execution of informatics activities (design and implementation of CRFs, Protocol Management, Quality Assurance, and Data Management) as indicated by the research protocol
Help document and develop grant applications and technical proposals by providing expertise, and demonstrating feasibility, proof-of-concept, or availability of prior data
Act as a liaison between ICTR Research Informatics Core and other departments, core facilities, and collaborator institutions
Participate actively in protection and securing of confidential health information by adopting and ensuring proper guidelines and processes are in place and applied at all times, and help develop and apply new policies and processes to further enhance the existing security and safety standards of practices.
Learn as super user and trainer’s trainer, of all informatics solutions and infrastructure available through ICTR, train other users, and help investigators and other research staff to apply and use informatics solutions properly and efficiently
Build and expand informatics and data management knowledge and expertise continually by participating in workshops, as both informatics trainee and trainer, collaborate closely with other informatics and research staff in the organization
Advocate for adoption of proper informatics methods to advance clinical and translational science
Work with the development team on the requirements, design and implementation of new tools and interfaces for information processing and data management for research.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Master’s degree with applied experience in informatics, or in biomedical, clinical or epidemiological research is required.
One to Three years of clinical, epidemiological, biomedical research experience as research analyst, coordinator, investigator, or data manager; background in informatics.
Expertise in using research tools for electronic data capture, building and managing databases of large size and complexity, developing methods of informatics for data cleaning and quality assurance, analytics for reporting, data mining, classification, signal and pattern recognition, visualization of information. Understanding of application and use of biomedical terminologies such as ICD9, SNOMEDCT, LOINC and CPT.
Understanding of HIPAA, implications of research on human subjects, and protection of private and confidential health information.
Programing and scripting skills (using .Net, Java, JavaScript, Excel macros, Python, Rubi, etc.) are required.
DBA skills to manage and work with Oracle or SQL Server database management systems, is a huge plus.
Understanding and experience using SAS, SPSS, r, STATA, or other statistical packages for data analysis is a huge plus.
