Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Shared Resource at the University of Arizona Cancer Center seeks two (2) Bioinformatics Analysts to join our team and apply computational techniques to rapidly accelerate the pace of cancer research. We offer a collaborative, supportive, and intellectually stimulating working environment.

The successful candidate(s) will provide bioinformatics analysis and genomic research consultation to research scientists in the collection, management, interpretation, and analysis of biological data, with a focus on, but not limited to, high-throughput technologies and next-generation sequencing. The main responsibility of this position is in the application of state-of-the-art bioinformatics technology to analyze and integrate large-scale multi-‘omic datasets in a collaborative setting.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Meet with research scientists to provide bioinformatics consultation in the analysis of experimental and publicly available datasets.
  • Communicate with research scientists to understand and obtain data analysis specifications.
  • Design data analysis project plans and estimate time to completion.
  • Work independently and as a team member to analyze data, developing software tools and analytical pipelines where necessary.
  • Provide publication quality documentations at the end of each data analysis project.
  • Evaluation, development, and support of new bioinformatics methods.
  • Work collaboratively with or mentor other staff to develop the resources in the Bioinformatics Shared Resource.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • MS in bioinformatics, computer science and/or the life sciences and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
  • Proficient in programming in R, Python, Java, or C/C++.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with genomic databases, such as TCGA , ENCODE , and CCLE / GDSC is a plus.
  • Familiarity with quantitative analysis of Exome/ RNA -seq or other ‘omics data is preferred.
