Job Description:
One bioinformatics engineer position is immediately available in the Pop lab ( https://sites.google.com/a/cs.umd.edu/poplab ) in the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at the University of Maryland, College Park. We are specifically looking for an experienced bioinformatics engineer who can lead the development and implementation of sequence analysis workflows in support of current bioinformatics projects in the lab, with focus on sequence classification, functional annotation, and pathway analysis.

● Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be asked to complete an on-line proficiency test focused on the key qualifications necessary for this position

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

● US Citizenship is required by the award funding this position

● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field

● 3 or more years of software development in bioinformatics or related field

● Advanced UNIX expertise

● Expertise in Python

● Expertise in creating and maintaining computational workflows

Desired qualifications:

● Programming proficiency in C/C++

● Experience processing DNA sequencing data and analysis of genomic datasets

● Expertise in parallel/multi-threaded programming

● Experience with software workload managers, such as Slurm, Torque, SGE, Condor.
