Job Description:
The successful candidate will work in our Bioinformatics group to enable high throughput screening efforts to find new therapeutic candidates. S/he will be responsible for writing data analysis and processing pipelines supporting translation of R&D efforts into clinical leads.

Report To: Associate Director, Bioinformatics

Required:

  • Excellent Python programming skills
  • Excellent communication skills with bench scientists
  • Familiarity with Linux environment and basic shell scripting (bash, sh, or zsh)
  • Experience with at least one open-source SQL database (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and SQL
  • Familiarity with NGS formats (FASTQ, SAM, BED) and genomics resources (NCBI, UCSC, EnsEMBL)
  • Working knowledge of Illumina sequence processing, aligners, and artifacts
  • Familiarity with at least one scientific/statistical graphics programming environment (ggplot2, dash, matplotlib, seaborn, etc.)
  • Basic Git / Subversion source code management experience
  • Practice of good data / code hygiene for repeatability and documentation
Preference given to candidates with some of the following skills:
  • Statistical training in high-throughput screening analysis
  • Knowledge of gene editing techniques
  • Experience with directed evolution of DNA/peptides
  • Experience with non-Illumina sequencing platforms (PacBio, Oxford Nanopore, Ion Torrent)
  • Unit testing (py.test, unittest) experience
  • Experience with Django/Flask frameworks and basic web forms
  • Basic familiarity with python packaging
  • Knowledge of packages / tools in the PyData stack (Pandas, numba, matplotlib, ipython, jupyter, etc.)
  • Experience with at least one statically typed language (C/C++, Java, Scala, C#, F#, Go, or Rust)
  • Creation and use of Docker containers or other provisioning framework (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, SaltStack, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Familiarity with AWS resources and (EC2, S3, lambda, etc.)
  • Workflow engines (Toil, Galaxy, Airflow, Luigi, etc.) and Common Workflow Language
Education:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Statistics, Bioengineering, or related area.
