A fantastic new opportunity has become available for a Postdoc Bioinformatician to join a fast-moving biopharmaceutical company as part of their Translational Bioinformatics team. You will be stratifying Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and Parkinson’s Disease (PD) patients and build predictive models of disease progression with the goal of generating a mechanism-based taxonomy of both diseases in order to transform drug development and medicine. A fantastic new opportunity has become available for a Postdoc Bioinformatician to join a fast-moving biopharmaceutical company as part of their Translational Bioinformatics team. You will be stratifying Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and Parkinson’s Disease (PD) patients and build predictive models of disease progression with the goal of generating a mechanism-based taxonomy of both diseases in order to transform drug development and medicine. Your Main Responsibilities As a Translational Bioinformatician Will Be:
- The team are skilled in analysing and interpreting large-scale omics datasets in combination with rich phenotypic datasets.
- Developing and implementing novel methods for extracting biologically intuitive genomic features from patient molecular datasets, specifically gene-level and pathway-level measures of mutational burden
- Stratifying patients using unsupervised clustering
- Developing predictive models of risk and disease progression for AD Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) and Parkinson’s Progression Marker Initiative (PPMI) data sets
- Improving understanding of molecular mechanisms that drive complex, chronic diseases and response to treatment
- PhD in Biology/Bioinformatics/Computer Science (or equivalent experience) essential
- Extensive experience of implementing and executing NGS pre-processing and analysis pipelines (whole genome sequencing, epigenetics and proteomics)
- Familiarity with methods for genetic variant annotation (e.g. SnpEff, VEP) and functional genomics resources (ENCODE and Roadmap Epigenomics)
- Understanding of network biology concepts and practical familiarity with common resources
- Deep knowledge of scripting in R or Python
- Confidence programming in a Linux/HPC environment (shell scripting, tools for NGS data manipulation)
- Experience of cloud-based NGS pipelining environments
