Job Description:
Under direct supervision of the PI, the incumbent will perform programming and/or assist in design and analysis of systems to decipher the role of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Copy Number Variation (CNVs) in psychiatric disorders. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a computational pipeline for processing and analyzing large volumes of genomic data. The incumbent will also be responsible for reporting the performance along with the specificity and sensitivity of each of these platforms so that they can be customized towards the overall goal of the project. Additionally, the incumbent will help develop algorithms for data cleaning and annotation of genetic variants. The incumbent will also be required to coordinate closely with members of an international team of scientists at other institutions to carry out the analysis of large datasets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological science, computational/programming, or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Basic knowledge in the development of bioinformatics tools as well as biological sciences in the field of genomics or computational biology.
  • Understanding of whole genome sequencing, genome assembly, and short-reads sequencing technology and application.
  • Knowledge in algorithm development for genome assembly.
  • Demonstrated programming skills in Java, Python, R with the ability to work comfortably in a Linux environment.
  • Knowledge/experience in a specified computing environment and operating systems, including Unix and Linux.
  • Demonstrated understanding of network computer operating system configurations, and experience with managing cross platform network communications and protocols, computer systems analysis and debugging methods, and current techniques for troubleshooting applications and system problems, including general knowledge of graphics/display systems, data structures, memory management, file systems, and database management techniques.
  • Knowledge of technologies such as but not limited to sequencing and micrroarrays currently being used for genomic data acquisition and analysis.
  • Experience with network security (for example deploying authentication systems, or applying cryptography to network applications), experience with host security (for example, passwords, uids/gids, file permissions, file system integrity, use of security packages).
