Job Description:
The Sweet-Cordero laboratory at the University of California San Francisco is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to be involved in research using computational tools to study the genomic and epigenetic basis of pediatric cancer. Our laboratory uses a variety of high throughput sequencing technologies including whole genome sequencing (WGS) and RNAseq to perform integrative studies of advanced pediatric cancer to address both clinical and basic discovery questions. In addition to publicly available data sources, our laboratory has collected a large (>150 patients) cohort of WGS and RNAseq samples from a variety of pediatric solid tumors. For a significant number of these (N=30), PDX models are also available for validation studies. We are also beginning to utilize single cell RNAseq to study questions related to therapy resistance and metastasis in pediatric cancer. The lab has both a “wet lab” and “dry lab” component. These resources provide a unique environment for data mining, discovery and testing computationally derived hypotheses in the lab. We are seeking a post-doctoral fellow who will focus primarily on computational analysis. We are particularly interested in applicants with both a discovery-based intellectual curiosity and an interest in applying their computational skills to directly address “n of 1” cases that present to the Benioff Children’s hospital. Qualifications: * A strong background in the area of bioinformatics and/or biostatistics. A PhD degree in Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or a related field. * Experience with and comfort working within a UNIX/Linux environment, including experience with high performance computing clusters and/or cloud computing. * Experience with relational database management systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL or similar software) * Programming skills in one or more languages, such as: Python, R, shell scripting, Java, Go, C++, etc. * Previous experience with analysis of next-generation sequencing of DNA and/or RNA. * Demonstrated ability to work with biologists to apply computational approaches to their experiments as well as the ability to help them develop their own bioinformatics skills. * Good communication and team skills and fluency in both spoken and written English. * Familiarity with basic molecular biology laboratory methods.
