Job Description:
Working as part of a multidisciplinary group and under direct supervision, the Bioinformatics Programmer will perform statistical analyses of high throughput genomics data by using and/or adapting existing computational algorithms. S/he will learn to write code to process genomic data sets, generate reports, and present the results to collaborators. With supervision, Bioinformatics Programmer will work from standard analysis pipelines and learn to modify code to fit individual projects. S/he will interact closely with core lab members and collaborate with other biostatisticians doing similar work at UCSF and elsewhere.

Primary job responsibilities:

• Carrying out data analysis on RNA-seq projects

• Communicating and providing results to researchers using the core

• Provide bioinformatic support during sequencing QC

• Support research efforts of labs utilizing next generation sequencing technologies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in molecular biology, bioinformatics, computer science or related field

• Basic understanding of molecular genetic principles

• Proficient in Python and/or R

• Basic consultation and strong communication skills

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills for working in a multidiscipline and collaborative team

Note: Fingerprinting and background check required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of next generation sequencing (NGS) methodologies and applications.

• Previous Exposure to Linux/Unix systems

SANDLER ASTHMA BASIC RESEARCH

The Sandler Asthma Basic Research (SABRE) Center for Functional Genomics Core Facility provide state of the art, high-throughput genomic technologies for the research community. We focus on functional genomics applications, especially bulk cell, RNA profiling (RNA-Seq and small RNA-Seq), single cell RNA profiling (scRNA-seq) and chromatin immunoprecipitation-sequencing (ChIP-Seq), using Illumina sequencers. We are a multidisciplinary group that interacts closely with investigators and offers support for all phases of each study, including experimental design, sample preparation, quality control, and data analysis.
