Job Description:
We are looking for a person to fill a position as a Software Engineer to help develop web-based portals that allow the broader medical community access to the data being generated at IPOP. The position will involve coordinating with other bioinformatics engineers and software developers at IPOP as well as working with developers at the center of molecular oncology to help broaden the scope of existing portals at MKSCC (http://cbioportal.org) to include features relevant to immunotherapy. This will require the development of novel visualizations for immunotherapy related data, especially data related to T-cell sequencing. The successful candidate will have a strong programming background and analytic skills as well as be comfortable communicating with other developers, scientists, and physicians. In addition to software development, there will also be opportunities to work on scientific projects ongoing in IPOP.

The successful candidate will ultimately develop analytic tools and a web-based portal for cancer immunotherapy, one of the most promising areas in cancer research.

You Will:

  • Work closely with scientists, physicians, and developers to sketch out requirements for IPOP portal
  • Build next-generation web applications with a focus on the client side
  • Develop novel analytical and visualization tools for immunotherapy related data
  • Curate immunotherapy related datasets generated from outside institutions
  • Maintain IPOP related web sites
  • Design and build UI architecture and components
  • Quickly generate a prototype from UI concepts for testing and team feedback
  • Pick up Java as necessary and engage with back-end systems
  • He/She will work with other developers, bioinformaticians, and experimental biologists ina dynamic and exciting academic environment at the nexus of cancer biology, computer science, statistics and clinical research.
You Need:
  • Bachelors of Science in computer science with 2+ years or programming experience or a Master of Science degree
  • Web development experience
  • Programming Experience in Java or C/C++
  • Experience with JQuery, AJAX, HTML, and CS
  • Experience in software engineering tools and methods
Desirable experience:
  • Experience with Python or, Perl is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of biology is a plus
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics algorithms, statistics, and software tools is a plus
  • Prior experience with analyzing “omics” data (RNA-seq, Whole-exome) is a plus
  • R/Bioconductor experience
  • Relational databases (e.g. Oracle, MySQL) and/or modern noSQL database systems.

The Immunogenomics and Precision Oncology Platform (IPOP) is a newly established program at MSK. IPOP is dedicated to developing precision immunotherapy at MSK. The program’s goal is to use state-of-the-art approaches to unravel the molecular determinants of response to immunotherapy and to optimize immunotherapeutics such as immune checkpoint inhibitors and neoantigen-based vaccines using large scale analyses.
