Job Description:
We are seeking a strong Bioinformatics Programmer to work closely with biologists to help analyze both RNA-Seq and Chip-Seq data. As a member of the bioinformatics team, you will process sequencing data through a computational pipeline and provide valuable insights to drive our cutting-edge research. Your key responsibilities include pre-processing sequencing data generated in-house, applying variety of statistical anlaysis methods to study Protein-DNA interactions, developing new method of genome analysis and present analysis results to biologists. We want you to be familiar with common Chip-Seq or RNA-Seq analysis pipelines and have a good understanding of alignment and peak calling algorithms.

The Willsey lab specializes in research to define the etiology of childhood neuropsychiatric disease, especially autism and Tourette’s syndrome. The applicant will perform efficient analysis of data generated by high-throughput genetics techniques is key to understanding the genetics underlying human diseases. The successful applicant will work with biologists to further this research and support the computing needs of the laboratory. While experience of biology and genetics would be a great asset, we are especially keen to hire an individual who is highly motivated and capable of both working in a team and independent problem solving.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in biological science, computational / programming, or related area and one to three years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience / training

• Proficient at Python, Perl, or R programming

• Familiarity with statistical analysis

• Systems administration with UNIX/Linux

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Ability to learn about genetics

• Attention to detail

• Ability to pick up new techniques quickly

• Excellent problem solving skills

• Demonstrates excellent attendance and professionalism

• Proven ability to work within a team to accomplish specific goals at specified times

• Proven record of excelling in a large team environment (15 plus individuals) but still possess an independent work ethic

Preferred Qualifications:

• M.S. degree in biological science, computational / programming, or related area and / or equivalent experience / training

• Experience with high performance clusters

• Background in biological data processing, especially in human genetics

• Background working with epigenetics datasets

• Experience with R, python, C/C++, Java, html, PHP, SQL programming
