Job Description:
Under supervision, the Bioinformatics Programmer will assist the bioinformatics team with writing and debugging computer code to identify mutations from patients on whom exome sequencing has been performed. Works closely with experienced computational biologists to implement new code in Python and Javascript for use by the team. Works with MySQL databases to extract and compile information. Helps to develop new MySQL databases to organize and flag new genetic variants. Helps with procedural or minor technical problems.Performs other related functions as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Theoretical knowledge of biology and biomedical informatics. -Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. -Demonstrated ability to interpret/coordinate research protocols and the corresponding data requirements. -Experience with the design, development, and maintenance of data collections used for data storage and analysis in a biomedical research environment. -Demonstrated experience designing and creating web applications and virtual machines. -Experience with compiled languages such as Java, C++ or C. -Experience with markup languages such as HTML or XML. -Demonstrated experience with scripting language such as Python or Perl. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior experience working in an environment where research relates to human diseases and developmental processes.
