Job Description:
Works simultaneously as project manager for large research and development projects, including those with multiple collaborator groups across the country and internationally, as well as part of the department agile software development teams, as a product owner, scrum master, or in other roles, as needed.

Manages multiple, concurrent projects including working directly with stakeholders including faculty and student researchers, research collaborators, healthcare organizations and providers, governmental agencies and patient groups. Project management duties will include creation and maintenance of schedules, timelines and milestones, creation and maintenance of budgets, coordination of communication among groups that may be geographically separated, and reporting to stakeholders and department leadership.

Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced technical project management professional with a full understanding of project management frameworks and methods, relevant policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues. Demonstrates competency in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Manages projects of diverse scope, size, impact, budget and / or project team size.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • A minimum of three (3+) or more years of relevant experience.
  • Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Requires ability to assess campus, medical center or Office of the President needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs.
  • Working knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives.
  • Demonstrated advanced organization and project management skills.
  • Proven competency in selecting and implementing project management methods and techniques.
  • Ability to keep complete notes and maintain required documentation of disparate types of activities associated with concurrent projects.
  • Strong leadership ability. Effective problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to put forth persuasive arguments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of Human Subjects Research data security concepts and regulations. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and procedures related to privacy preservation.
  • Experience with institutional audits of procedures and security. Ability to work with authorities to demonstrate regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Agile project management methodologies, such as SCRUM.
  • Professional certification. Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) or similar.

Biomedical Informatics is an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of biology, medicine, and quantitative sciences. Biomedical informatics researchers develop new methods to integrate and analyze vast amounts of data generated in the laboratory, clinical and translational research, clinical encounters, and population studies.

The goals of the Department of Biomedical Informatics are to (1) promote excellence in biomedical informatics research, (2) collaborate with biomedical researchers in developing new quantitative methods that enable the formulation and testing of original hypotheses, (3) train the next generation of biomedical informatics specialists, and (4) interface with engineering, mathematics, information and computer science communities, serving as a hub for quantitative scientists focused on biomedical research.

This department leads multiple federally and non-profit funded biomedical research projects, which are focused on the integration, analysis, and sharing of biomedical and health care data for the scientific community, as well as patient-centered research. In addition, the department runs a complex computational infrastructure that allows access and analysis of these data in a privacy-preserving manner.
